This is the thread for requesting a new chapter to be made.
Please reply to this thread with your location and whether you're interested in planning an event. (You don't need to be planning an event to make a chapter, but it's good to know!)
I've already been in touch by email, I'm actively planning an Open Source Comes to Campus Event for University of Toronto, February 28, 2015 hosted by (at the very least) the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Student Chapter here.
Could we get a chapter set up?
Hi @dcwalk! I've set up a Toronto chapter for you. I saw that you created a Trello board for the event. I have two requests.
First, could you delete that board and re-copy the template? I just updated it to reflect our adapting the Bridge Troll system to make a new website, OpenHatch Events. This site will be very useful for handling sign ups and sending reminder emails, among other things, so I'm very excited to have it -- should be considerably less work for all of us. We're still debugging, so don't sign up yet (actually, I don't think you can - the bug we're trying to fix has to do with signups) but hopefully I'll update the thread with a go-ahead for that tomorrow.
Second, in your new chapter you should make an organizer's thread for this specific event. You can leave a link to the Trello board there, for easy access and for those who might want to help organize.
Hello! I'd like to propose that a "Monterey County" chapter be created.
We are most probably interested in holding an event this semester, if it works for you all. There was some talk about additional funding at Hartnell College for ongoing open source-related events, but I need to check on the status of that to see if it came through or not. I'll check in with the other computer science people at CSUMB / Hartnell College and let you know what our plans are.
Your chapter has been created, @katieirenec. Make sure to sign up to receive email notifications for posts in there. I've also made you a moderator, which gives you the ability to edit any posts - you probably want to edit this post: http://discourse.openhatch.org/t/about-the-monterey-ca-category/59 Feel free to create additional posts and topics as desired.
@dcwalk, I've made you a moderator as well, feel free to customize the about page for the Toronto chapter and anything else you'd like.
Hi again @Shauna,
Can you create a chapter for Storrs, CT? I'm considering an event at UConn for Fall 2015 and having a chapter and e.g. an introductions thread could help with recruiting local mentors.
Done! I've also granted you moderator powers, so you should be able to edit the "About this category" page for the Storrs, CT chapter.
@Shauna, after I edited the About page it still shows the same content to me. However on the summary I do see that the first bit of my edited version. So it seems a bit odd. Do you have to do something like approve my edit? If there doesn't appear to be a straightforward fix we continue this discussion over pm so that I don't spam this thread.
@pariksheet, this is actually a bug in Discourse I've run across before. My bug report to Discourse, along with the solution I found, are here. I made that change on your post and the correct content seems to be showing up for me.
I'm Zuoming Shi, we have been in touch through email, and I've also helped organize the last OpenHatch event in Tucson. I'm requesting the creation of a Tucson Chapter to help plan the next event at the University of Arizona. I'm interested in starting an event this semester along with some of the officers from UofA WICS. Thanks!
I'd like to request a chapter be made for Bloomington, Indiana for planning future Indiana University events! Thanks!
Hi @zuomingshi and @jessiepusateri! I've made your chapters (Tuscon and Bloomington) and granted you moderator powers. You should be able to edit the "About the Chapter" thread to give details about your schools and your plans.
There doesn't seem to be any chapter for New York City, so can you create one?
I'm looking to start up an event(s) around that region.
Hi @Treayn. Here you go: http://discourse.openhatch.org/t/about-the-new-york-city-category/113
If you would like to be a chapter organizer, let me know and I will make you a moderator so you can edit the welcome message.
I'd like to request a chapter for Pittsburgh to facilitate planning an OpenHatch event at Carnegie Mellon University, if that's possible. Thanks!
Hi @jocelynh! The Pittsburgh chapter is here: http://discourse.openhatch.org/c/chapters/pittsburgh & I've given you moderator powers so you can edit the welcome message. Let me know if you need any help with it!
I would like to request a chapter be made for Pune Institue of Computer Technology, Pune, India in order to plan Open Source Comes to Campus events!
Thanks a lot!
Hi @sphoorti I created http://discourse.openhatch.org/t/about-the-pune-category/152 and made you a moderator. You should be able to edit the category welcome message linked above; if not let me know. Thanks!
I would like to plan an Open Source Comes to Campus Event on behalf of Northwest Missouri State University's Association of Computing Machinery chapter. We are located in Maryville, MO. Could you create a chapter for us?
